How to extract a ZIP
Choose a ZIP
Pick one ZIP file or drop it on the page. Its list of files appears without unpacking anything.
Browse and select
Open folders, search by file name, and tick the files you want. Select all and Clear selection help with big lists.
Download
Download one file, the selected files as a new ZIP, or everything as a new ZIP.
What to know
- Reading the list is quick. The names and sizes come from the index at the end of the ZIP. Files are only decompressed when you download them, one at a time, so a big archive does not fill your memory.
- Sizes are estimates until checked. The sizes shown are what the ZIP says about itself, and a damaged or dishonest ZIP can say anything. Each file is counted while it is decompressed, stopped at the limits, and checked against its checksum before you get it.
- Selected files are a new ZIP. Downloading several files gives you a new ZIP built from them, with their folders kept. It is not a copy of the original and not necessarily smaller. Files with the same path are kept and renamed (2), (3) and so on.
- Supported ZIPs. ZIP files saved as one file, with Store or Deflate entries and no password, including ZIP64 sizes and offsets. Other entries stay in the list marked as not extractable, with the reason: encrypted, another compression method, a symbolic link, an unsafe path or damaged data.
- Unsafe paths are never used. Entries with absolute paths, drive letters, .. segments or null bytes (with / or \ as separators) are listed but never extracted, so nothing can end up outside its folder.
- Nothing is opened for you. ZIPs inside the ZIP are not unpacked, and HTML, SVG or scripts are not shown or run. There is no preview. Downloads are not scanned for malware.
Limits
- 1 GB
- 10,000
- 512 MB
- 1 GB
A file that would expand more than 250× once it passes 64 MB, or a run longer than 10 minutes, is stopped with a message. Work runs in a background thread (a Web Worker) and Cancel stops it at once.
What happens to your files
Everything runs in your browser. Your files and their names are not uploaded and are not sent to any server. They are not saved in the browser and not put in the page address. Refreshing or closing the tab discards them. The tool never opens, runs or previews what is inside an archive, and a download does not mean a file is safe. See Privacy.
Not included

- Split (multi-part) ZIPs and self-extracting programs
- Compression methods other than Store and Deflate
- Other archive formats such as RAR, 7z or TAR
- Previews of files, or opening ZIPs inside a ZIP
Frequently asked questions
Why is a file marked not extractable?
The reason is shown under its name. The rest of the ZIP can still be used; a result that leaves entries out is marked Incomplete and lists them.
Will the download be smaller than the ZIP?
Not necessarily. A ZIP of selected files is built again from the unpacked files and has its own overhead.
What if a file in the ZIP is damaged?
Its checksum or size will not match, so it is not delivered and is listed as damaged. Other files are not affected.
Is my file uploaded?
No. It is read and processed in your browser. The site only delivers the page and its code.
Do I need an account?
No. The tool is free and needs no sign-in.
