Image Cropper

Cut a JPEG, PNG or WebP image down to the area you need. Your file stays on your device.

Drop an image here

One JPEG, PNG or WebP image, up to 50 MB and 40 megapixels.

Files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to crop an image

  1. Add an image

Drop or choose one JPEG, PNG or WebP image. It appears in full with the whole image selected.

  2. Select the area

Drag the selection and its handles, pick an aspect ratio, or type exact pixel values.

  3. Crop and download

Press Crop image, check the result and its size, then download it.

Aspect ratios and pixel sizes

A ratio locks the selection’s shape: width to height. Original keeps the image’s own shape, Freeform lets you drag any shape, and Custom takes two numbers such as 5 and 4.

Common aspect ratios
RatioShapeOften used for
1:1SquareProfile pictures, social posts
4:3LandscapeMany phone and compact-camera photos
3:2LandscapeDSLR and mirrorless photos, prints
16:9WideVideo thumbnails, presentations, banners
9:16TallStories, reels and phone wallpapers
  • Pixel values. Left, Top, Width and Height are pixels of the original image, however large it looks on screen. The result is exactly the width and height shown before you crop.
  • Rotated phone photos. Photos are shown and cropped the way they display, so the selection matches what you see even if the camera stored them sideways.

What happens to your file

The image is cropped by code running in your browser tab and is not uploaded. Your original file is never changed. The result stays in memory until you clear it, replace the image or close the page. See Privacy.

What the cropped file contains

  • The selected pixels at their original resolution; nothing is scaled.
  • The original format by default. PNG and WebP keep transparency; JPEG fills it with your background color.
  • No EXIF metadata, such as camera details or GPS location.
  • Colors converted to sRGB.

Troubleshooting

The image was rejected

The reason is shown above the drop area. Only still JPEG, PNG and WebP images work; animated images, other formats, damaged files and files over the limits are not supported.

The Crop image button is disabled

The reason is shown next to it, for example when the selection still covers the whole image or a custom ratio is incomplete.

It's hard to drag on my phone

Drag inside the selection to move it and use the round corner handles to resize. You can also type exact values under Selection in pixels.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. It is cropped in your browser. The site only delivers the page and its code.

Can I crop several images at once?

Not yet. The cropper works on one image at a time.

Can I resize after cropping?

Yes, with the Image Resizer. The cropper never scales the selection.

Does cropping lower the quality?

The selected pixels are kept as they are. Saving as JPEG or WebP uses the quality setting; PNG is lossless.
