How to trim audio
Choose a file
Pick or drop one MP3, WAV, M4A, Ogg or FLAC file.
Set the section
Drag the start and end handles on the waveform, or type exact times. Preview the section before you save it.
Trim and download
Choose MP3 or WAV, press Trim audio, play the result and download it.
What to know
- Exact times, with honest precision. The cut is made on the audio your browser decodes, to the nearest sample. WAV and FLAC decode exactly. MP3 and M4A decoders can differ by a few milliseconds between browsers and editors, so a time can land slightly differently elsewhere. The saved MP3 also starts with a short silent encoder delay.
- Not a lossless cut. The section is decoded and encoded again, so an MP3 trimmed to MP3 is a new MP3 (and loses a little quality), not a copy of the original bytes. Choose WAV to keep the decoded section exactly.
- Keyboard and touch. Each handle can be focused: arrow keys move it by 0.1 seconds, Shift with an arrow by 1 second, Page Up and Page Down by 5 seconds, Home and End to the ends. The start and end fields do the same job with typed times. On a touch screen only the handles capture your finger, so the page still scrolls.
- Preview. The preview plays your original file between the start and end and stops at the end. Seeking inside compressed files is approximate, so the saved cut can differ from the preview by a few milliseconds.
- One section only. The tool keeps a single section. Joining, several selections, removing silence and effects are not part of it.

Audio is decoded to 32-bit floating point in memory while you work (about 21 MB per minute of 44.1 kHz stereo), so very long or high sample rate files can run out of memory on small devices. The finished file is also held in memory until you download it. Cancel stops the work at once and keeps nothing.
What happens to your files
Everything runs in your browser. Your audio, its file name and its tags are not uploaded and are not sent to any server. They are not saved in the browser and not put in the page address. Refreshing or closing the tab discards them, and playback and results use temporary addresses that exist only on your device. See Privacy.
Not included
- Several files at once, or joining files
- Video files, or choosing between several audio tracks
- Copy-protected (DRM) files
- More than two channels (surround)
- Keeping tags, cover art or chapters
- Fades, or several sections
- Cutting without re-encoding
Frequently asked questions
Why does the saved MP3 start with a tiny gap?
MP3 encoders add a short delay at the start (about a hundredth of a second). Players that read the MP3’s gapless information hide it; others play it as silence. WAV has no such delay.
Does it keep the original sample rate?
WAV output keeps it. MP3 keeps it when MP3 can hold it, and the output plan tells you the actual rate before you trim.
Can I trim a video’s audio?
No. Files that contain video are refused rather than processed silently.
Is my file uploaded?
No. It is read and processed in your browser. The site only delivers the page and its code.
Do I need an account?
No. The tool is free and needs no sign-in.
